La-La-La-Libra!
Ah, Libra! People born under the sign of Libra are balanced, tactful, friendly, polite, and usually have a deep appreciation of art and beauty. I’m very partial to that sign, not only because I’m a Libra Rising and I’m close to several wonderful Libras (you know who you are!) but what’s not to like about a sign ruled by the beauteous and beneficent planet Venus? If you follow astrology you know that we’re deep in Libra territory right now with the Sun, Mars, and Mercury all in Libra and as of 7:05 a.m. EST here on the east coast of the U.S. the new moon entered Libra as well at the same degree as the Sun and Mercury. That’s a pretty intense gang to be hanging out together, no matter what neighborhood they’re in! There are lots of other things happening in the sky, of course, but today let’s just look at the New Moon and what’s going on with all of those planets in Libra.
I can imagine them as if they were a gang of teenagers. (I’ve probably watched one too many re-runs of Buffy the Vampire Slayer lately!) The Sun is the leader; he’s like the student council president. He takes it for granted that everything is about him, but when he is in a given sign he takes on that particular coloration. When he’s in Libra, he will be fair-minded and open to hearing all sides when trying to make up his mind. Mars is the jock: strong, assertive, competitive, and not necessarily all that comfortable in this ‘fair and balanced’ territory. He might ordinarily challenge the Sun, but nonetheless concedes to the Libran energy and may back off, acknowledging that discretion is the better part of valor.
In the meantime, Mercury is a bit of a nerd; he’s impartial and cares only that the lesson be learned and the information be dispersed and the world must keep spinning no matter the cost. He’s in retrograde right now, so like the trickster that he’s known to be, he even walks backward to get our attention, all the while pointing out problems and situations of imbalance in the world of transportation, electronics, and communication. (Anybody notice Facebook was out for half a day this week?) All of this restless jockeying around could possibly lead to trouble even in placid Libra, but we have another player in the house tonight.
Enter the New Moon. I see her like a young woman covered in black, starry veils that she will gradually pull away over the next few weeks as she waxes to full. For now, even though we can’t see her yet, she has a magnetic pull…we certainly know she’s there! “Hey, boys!” she might say. “How’s your love life?” (or friendship or work relationship). The moon is all about our emotional, nurturing side and in Libra she wants to focus on creating and growing good relationships.
New moons are all about resets and planting seeds, so now is a perfect time to plant the seed of intention for exactly what you want in a relationship. A quick internet search will give you dozens of great ideas for New Moon rituals but one simple way is to light a small chime candle and focus on your intention. (Always practice fire safety!) Bring your nearest and dearest to mind and visualize all the great things about the relationship and how you can expand on that energy. If you’re single, make a checklist of what you’re looking for in a partner and see yourself connecting. However, you may choose to welcome the Libra New Moon energy, you are bound to enjoy some especially harmonious moments in your life.
